mAz - Tell Me
I have probably 95 songs no one has heard yet, and I'm always constantly doing new stuff and working with new people. I started getting personal with my music in Audio Theory during high school. I always rapped as a joke, and started getting better and seriously doing it cause why do something 50%, fuck what people say and have fun. I began producing tons of hip-hop beats and working on Defamed, and somewhere in between the mess of life, recording, and everything in between I realized I really wanted to go back to instruments.
I decided a few weeks ago I was going to sit down and write as many songs as I could 100% just for me. I had so many emotions going on through my head and needed to write these songs just for me. It didn't matter because I can control who actually hears them in the end. What ended up happening was 5 unique songs that as a whole I titled "Our True Colors."
The EP talks about relationships of all kinds, loneliness, ambition, success, addiction, partying, and everything in between. I feel like these songs are unclassifiable in genres as I mix styles of indie / alternative / hip - hop / metal and more.
I made it a rule not to scream on any of these songs, and a lot of the words and music are mostly freestyle. Of course if a guitar take wasn't perfect I would re-do it, but these are all the natural free flowing thoughts in my mind. Scary right? Haha for real tho, these are very personal songs, and are some of the most creative songs I've ever made.
Music has been so dead around here and I think it's time we need to shake things up with some real substance and emotion. Take it for what it is, I'm giving away a song a week, and putting the full 5 songs online around Christmas. Tell me what you think.
